The library conveyor system can be used to link automatic Tuomas return units located hundreds of meters apart, making it possible to connect more than one return unit to the system and enabling material return points to be placed far from the sorting subsystem.
The return units that are linked using the library conveyor network form a single system where materials returned at any material return point are always transported to the correct sorting station. Additional sorting stations of individual library departments can also be placed along the conveyor line.
Our first conveyor system has recently been installed into the Turku main library, where the return units of the old library building and the new building have been linked. The conveyor system works in tandem with the material return points, moving (for example) books borrowed from the new building and deposited into return units in the old building to the new building, and vice versa.
This innovation makes sorting work much easier and guarantees the books are delivered to the correct location.
